Liquid Silicone Rubber versus High Consistency Rubber

As in all walks of life, trends come and go and that applies to the manufacturing world too. However, in the medical device manufacturing sector, decisions have to made based on many different criteria, as a wrong decision could have a disastrous outcome, in more ways than one.

When deciding between the use of Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) or High Consistency Rubber (HCR) the decision must be made based on the application needs.

Talking to Andrew Thomas, Business Development Manager with Primasil Silicones Ltd, he believes that many medical device technology professionals are so used to using LSR, that at times they do so by default. Andrew is passionate about his role and said "With the current and growing popularity of LSR I want to help our existing and future customers make the best 'material' decision (in terms of performance, cost and delivery timeframes) by exploring the pros and cons of LSR versus HCR,"

Primasil will be exhibiting at Medical Technology UK next year, March 16/17 (stand #25) at the newly branded Coventry Building Society Arena (formerly The Ricoh) and have experts on hand who can explain the company's wider capabilities.
These include its decades of experience in silicone rubber for the medical sector, global reach and ability to provide a huge variety of quality medical sector products such as: facemasks, ventilator seals, tubing, tourniquets, liver slings, surgical mats, and inserts for surgical trays, duckbills and conical seals.

"It's incredible how one material can have so many properties," said Caroline Herdman, Medical Division Manager. 'Primasil has the expertise and capabilities to subtly alter the silicone's chemistry to meet most needs. At the show we're really looking forward to guiding medical device designers and engineers to discover its potential for their business - whether it's a more cost-effective application or a new product development. It's an invaluable resource for creating, improving and transforming medical devices."

In the meantime, Primasil Silicones Limited are at Kington Road, Weobley, Herefordshire, HR4 8QU
